A smart & sophisticated 70's sci-fi mash-up
Director Jack Plotnick has created a dead-on tribute to the sci-fi future envisioned in the 70's, and assembled a charming (and flawed) group to populate its curved white hallways. Well played by the entire cast, especially Liv Tyler with her usual understated intensity, Matt Bomer as a stand-up guy in a bad marriage, Patrick Wilson delivering a deadpan sexism worthy of Ron Burgundy, and a heartbreakingly luminous and unmannered performance by child actor Kylie Rogers. For good measure, throw in some wonderful running gags (a lunatic robotic psychiatrist), off-the-charts great art direction and costume design. If you remember the domes and droids of "Silent Running" fondly, you won't be disappointed.
