An Easy satirical Comedy

Friended to Death

I have 22 friends on Facebook and log in once a week (should I kill myself). I have thousands of twitter friends, but they are not really friends (no one willingly talks to me). Some people put an incredible value into their social media connections; they live to post comments and updates; they are better at communicating through screens than in person. They want attention, love, acceptance, likes, but they are not willing to reciprocate.

'Friended to Death' is the story of Michael Harris (Ryan Hansen) a parking Enforcer who loves his job almost as much as posting smug updates on social media. Fired, along with a 'friend' named Emile (James Immekus), Michael starts to wonder if anyone really cares about him; how many people would come to his funeral if he was to die. The two fake Michael's death setting off a sequence of events rife with humor.

This is a great simple satire. People forget the whole point of comedy, thousands of years ago was to Satirize problems in society and I think social disconnection is perhaps the biggest one we face (besides global warming and world oligarchy and all that). We all want attention. We all want to be important. We friend, we like, we upvote, but do we really care about one another?

This movie had a great message and comedy acting that truly surprised me.

James Immekus, who played Emile, was the perfect straight man.

Ryan Hansen, who usually comes off as the vapid guy your ex-gf starts going out with, really showed emotion in this movie. His comedy presentation was similar to that of his roles on 'Party Down' or 'Veronica Mars', but he opened up a lot and was able to deliver these ass-hole one liners while remaining likable. I thought he did an excellent job.

Sarah Smick (the mysterious girl in red: Sylvie) had one of the most important roles in the movie, being the catalyst and device which moved the entire plot. I like the way her face looks and felt she really made this movie. Oh, well, she did, because she directed it.

This was an enjoyable movie to watch. It was simple in terms of not trying to go overboard and do too much.

Setting--premise--this happens--plot moves--there are two dramatic elements driving the story and threatening the climax--emotions come out--character's develop--stuff happens--people learn.

This to me was almost a perfect technical story and I'm not sure if there was anything wrong with it. I found it funny and thought provoking.
